Music Tuition

At Penrice Academy, we have a thriving Music Department and are extremely pleased that many of our students take up the opportunity to learn a musical instrument alongside their academic studies.

Being able to play an instrument is a wonderful gift that helps to develop students’ self-esteem, confidence and diligence and is something that we encourage. At Penrice we have a team of experienced and highly-qualified peripatetic music teachers who deliver expert tuition on a range of instruments. The majority of these teachers are provided by Cornwall Music Service Trust.

Music lessons take place during the school day and students have permission to excuse themselves from their timetabled lesson to attend their music lesson. Whilst some students prefer to play for the sheer enjoyment of the instrument, other students may be driven by goals and targets and where appropriate, students may be entered for graded exams and suggested for local ensembles.

Which Instruments Can You Learn to Play?

We currently offer tuition on the following instruments:
Piano, Keyboard, Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Guitar (Electric and Acoustic), Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Drumkit, Orchestral Percussion and Voice.

Free Music Lessons for Year 7

Once again at Penrice Academy, we are providing all Year 7 students the opportunity to a free 6-week trial of music lessons on an instrument of their choice. This allows students an insight into trying an instrument they may never have tried before, whilst also developing their confidence, perseverance and concentration skills. We are able to provide the instruments for the lessons and students do not need access to one of these instruments at home in order to take part in these lessons.
