WEDNESDAY 22ND JULY

London - Capital of Culture

“We started another busy day in London with a journey on the Tube to South Kensington where we visited the exciting Science Museum. The students were amazed by the range of inventions on display and found the interactive screens particularly engaging.

After leaving the museum, we walked to Hyde Park where we enjoyed our lunch under the shade of the trees. We then walked past the Royal Albert Hall and Prince Albert Memorial to Hyde Park Corner where we travelled via the Piccadilly Line to Piccadilly Circus. The students then enjoyed a bit of retail therapy with the chance to peruse the shops of Leicester Square, Carnaby Street and Covent Garden.

We also had the opportunity to experience the unique and distinct cultures of China Town and Soho. We finished our evening with another amazing theatre show and a fantastic interactive  performance of The Play That Goes Wrong.

The students found the interactive element of this performance particularly enthralling and hilarious and laughter erupted from the start to finish. We arrived back at the hostel and enjoyed another long sleep before another exciting day tomorrow”.

 

 

Barcelona

Our students are having a fantastic time in Barcelona! They have explored the Gothic Quarter, shopped in the market, took in the sights of Las Ramblas, enjoyed lunch in the shade of Parc de la Ciutadella, and have been wowed by the beauty of la Sagrada Familia!

Living London Life (Day 3)

Today, Living London Life split into 2 groups to experience the bredth of the city. 

One group went to Kensington before venturing to the Science Museum to immerse themselves in the History of Science. Next, they soaked up the sights around Buckingham Palace & St James Park, then went to the Houses of Parliament for a tour and were even able to see the House of Lords in session before heading to reunite as a group.

The second group spent the day as journalists in residence, writing news for the web at the Guardian headquarters. They wrote, edited and sent to print a wide range of stories varying from news about the new PM to the birth of Capybara pups. They then strolled along the canal to Camden Market where they embraced the diverse range of market stalls before reuniting.

Once reunited at Trafalgar Square, the whole group enjoyed a meal together at Frankie & Bennie’s and enjoyed the spectacle that was ‘Oliver!’ on stage.

 

Barton Hall (PGL)

Our Curriculum Enrichment Week trip to Barton Hall is in full swing, and students have enjoyed an exciting first three days packed with adventure, challenge and fun.

Since arriving on the English Riviera, students have thrown themselves into a range of activities, from climbing and orienteering to water-based challenges and team-building exercises. Throughout the week, they have shown great determination, resilience and teamwork, supporting one another and celebrating each other's achievements.

Evenings have been just as enjoyable, with entertainment providing plenty of opportunities to relax, socialise and build lasting friendships.

We are incredibly proud of how our students have represented Penrice Academy. Their enthusiasm and willingness to embrace new experiences have been outstanding.

There is plenty more adventure ahead. In the meantime, enjoy the photos from the trip so far.

TUESDAY 21ST JULY

Living London life Day Two

Day 2 update:

We started our day treading the boards at The Globe Theatre learning all about the history and life of Shakespeare and The Globe. This was followed by the chance to explore the bustling Borough Market where lots of them sampled Humble Crumble. We climbed the 206 steps of Tower Bridge to see the glorious view of the Thames from above.

Following this we shopped at Leicester Square and Covent Garden before venturing for pizza. We ended the night laughing our hearts out watching The Play That Goes Wrong and strolling back along the riverside to the hotel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

London Capital of Culture

Words by Mr Brodey, Trip Leader:

"After a long night's sleep we enjoyed a continental breakfast at the hostel before we headed into central London. We rode the tube from Camden Town to Bank before embarking on a sight-seeing walk to St Paul's Cathedral. After some photo opportunities, we walked across the Millenium Bridge and enjoyed a self-led tour of the Tate Modern Gallery. It was amazing to see so many interesting and thought provoking installations by a range of famous artists. After leaving the Tate Modern, we enjoyed a Thameside walk to Gabriel's Wharf where we ate our lunch.

After this, we embarked on a boat tour of the Thames, seeing many sights including the OXO Tower, the Palace of Westminster, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. This was followed by a ride on the London Eye where we got to experience London from another angle. After this, we walked over Westminster Bridge and spent some time in Parliament Square admiring the county flags.

We then walked up Whitehall and past Downing Street to Prezzo Northumberland Avenue where we enjoyed our evening meal before embarking on the tube again for our evening performance of Wicked. The students thoroughly enjoyed the show using words such as "extraordinary", "exciting" and "spectacle" to describe the experience.

After travelling back to Camden on the Tube, we went straight to bed for another good night's sleep. We cannot wait for another fun day tomorrow. "

 

 

 

Kernow Week

Students enjoyed a visit to Healeys Cider Farm for Kernow Week and met Scrumpy the pigmy goat!

MONDAY 20TH JULY

London Capital of Culture

Words by Mr Brodey, Trip Leader:
"We met bright and early at 07:30am at St Austell train station and caught the 08:05am train to London Paddington. Once we had alighted the train, we ventured onto the Tube, taking the Elizabeth Line followed by the Northern Line to reach our hostel in Camden. After settling into our rooms, we explored the Camden Markets where the students were amazed by the various souvenirs, cultural wares and culinary delights on offer - many of which were sampled and enjoyed!

After strolling through Regent's Park, we enjoyed our evening meal at Pizza Express Camden Parkway before retiring to our hostel for a much-needed early night. We are very much excited for our day tomorrow where we will explore the Tate Modern and Westminster."

 

 

Living London Life

Year 9 have launched into London Life with a busy first evening. They ventured to Trafalgar Square, enjoyed food at Hard Rock Cafe and then watched the sun setting on the London Eye before having a lovely stroll back to their accommodation.

 

Kernow Week

Kernow Week has begun with the Bodinnick Ferry trip to the Fowey Hall Wall!

And a picturesque Polruan ferry crossing on the way home!
