Students Cast Their Votes in Youth Council Election

Penrice Academy was proud to play its part in the Cornwall Youth Council Elections on Wednesday 5 February, as every student across the school had the opportunity to cast their vote and make their voice heard.
Unlike traditional elections, students were asked to vote for a manifesto pledge rather than a named candidate. Among the four anonymous candidates standing for the St Austell & Newquay constituency, we were delighted to learn that one is a Penrice student. Although their identity remains undisclosed, the knowledge that a member of our school community is stepping forward to represent the young people of Cornwall is something we are incredibly proud of.
Across the day, year groups visited the assembly hall to participate in the voting process - an experience that not only empowers students but also strengthens their understanding of democracy, one of our core British values.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Cllr James Mustoe and the Cornwall Council team for coordinating this important event at Penrice. A special thank you must also go to our dedicated Student MPs, whose support ensured each voting session ran smoothly and professionally.
Democracy is alive and thriving at Penrice, and we can’t wait to see the impact our young people will make!
