Year 8s Bake for Macmillan Last week Year 8 held a Cake Sale to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, following a morning of baking earlier in the week. The students, from 8E0, raised over £130 for the charity, which offers support and advice for those who have cancer. Miss Oldrieve explains: “Jess was the driving force behind the sale contacting Macmillan, and making an extraordinary amount of cakes herself, however she was ably assisted by the rest of the group; be it in the baking, selling or the buying of the cakes!” Jess was inspired to get involved in helping Macmillan as she felt that the services they provide in helping families is unique. Macmillan do everything from helping with money worries and advice about work, to being there to listen if you just want to talk, recognising that cancer can affect people in every aspect of their lives. Bella made a Victoria Sponge cake with different layers representing the make-up of the Earth, as part of a Geography project with Mr Wood. She said: “The project in Geography is all about representing a ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ and the cake was a great way to represent layers. I was really happy to auction it for the Cake Sale as it’s such an important cause. Lots of my friends have family members who are helped by MacMillan and they do such a brilliant job.” Well done to 8EO and congratulations to Mr Henderson who was the lucky winner of Bella’s earth cake!
