Year 10 Science Day 2017 On Thursday 2nd March, Year 10 immersed themselves once again in the world of Science, with our annual Science Day. The day saw the whole year take part in a range of sessions and workshops, featuring special guests from Cornwall College talking Engineering, Animal Care, Food and Virtual Reality, and the University of Exeter, talking Renewable Energy and the wonderful world of Bees. Other workshops put on by the Science department included a look at Wheal Martyn, Forensics and a simulated Zombie Outbreak with Mr Waters. Mr O’Brien said: “The purpose of the day was to expose our Year 10 students to the broad range of STEM careers available to them and to hopefully inspire them to explore a little more.” The day culminated in a fascinating dissection with Mr La Borde and Mr Round – where organs of all kinds were experienced up close and broadcast on a big screen – and a series of explosive experiments on stage featuring student volunteers. Mr O’Brien concluded: “It was a fantastic day and the feedback from the staff from Cornwall College and University of Exeter was really positive. Our students were awesome, as ever.” Big thanks to Morgan from Year 10 for taking pics all day as part of the Media Team, and to the Science Department for putting on a fascinating day.
