UKMT Team Challenge 2016

On Monday 12th December 2016, the hall was alive with the sound of mathematicians from Years 8 and 9 competing in the UKMT Team Challenge; 3 rounds of questions, puzzles and relays.

The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity with the aim of advancing the education of children and young people in mathematics. The Trust organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for young people, and gives them the opportunity to compete against pupils from other schools in their region.

The UKMT Team Challenges promote mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills through a number of rounds focussing on group work, beating the clock and a relay race.

In the Penrice event there were TWO winning teams, who grabbed joint 1st place with 72 points!

Maisie Craddock, Devin Smith, Oscar Barber and Rachel Biggs

Stephanie Clemo, Ebony Underwood, Harvey Barnett and Talan Grigg

3rd place: David Lee, Abbie Pike, Megan Frost and Caleb Robins

Mr Hopkins said: “This is always an intense but hugely fun event, with some of our brightest mathematicians going head to head for nearly two hours. As always I was really impressed with their commitment and skill and really look forward to seeing then in action in the regionals.”

Watch out for news on who will go on to compete and represent Penrice Academy at the Regional Final next year.
