Year 9 & 10 Take On National UKMT Maths Challenge There have been faces of concentration in the computer room over the past two days as our Year 9 and Year 10 students have competed in the national UKMT Maths Challenge. The UKMT Maths Challenge is an annual event that Penrice is proud to take part in and acts as an enrichment opportunity for our students who compete in a 60-minute test involving a series of problem solving questions. The online competition encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. Annually, the UKMT have over 700,000 entries for these challenges making it the most popular school mathematical event across the country. We run two events, the Intermediate Challenge (Year 9 and Year 10) in February, and the Junior Challenge (Year 7 and Year 8) in April. This year we had 120 students take part in the Intermediate Challenge in a bid to achieve one of the prestigious awards. Mrs Johns, Deputy Head of Maths, said: “The students have put fantastic effort in over the last 48 hours and we wish them the best of luck for their results.” We will share news of any prestigious Gold, Silver and Bronze awards when the results are released later in the year!
