Students Achieve Best Results Ever in UKMT Junior Maths Challenge We are delighted to share the news that six students have qualified for the next round of the highly-competitive UK Maths Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge, making this year Penrice Academy’s best performance ever in the competition! Held across the UK, the UKMT Maths Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice exam that encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the Junior Mathematical Challenge are designed to really make students think. Zidane Shines A very special mention must go to Zidane in Year 7 who performed so well that he has automatically qualified for the third round of the national competition – the Junior Maths Olympiad! Zidane is the first-ever Penrice student to achieve this feat, scoring over 85%! Congratulations Zidane, you should be very proud of your achievement! UKMT Certificates All Bronze, Silver and Gold UKMT Certificates were handed out in assemblies recently and students received applause from their peers as their names were announced. Congratulations to all students who received the certificates below. You will see from the results below that the UKMT is a competition where even a Gold Certificate does not necessarily secure passage to the next round, highlighting just how much our six qualifiers have excelled themselves. UKMT Junior Maths Challenge – Penrice Results Summary 13 Gold Certificates (6 of whom qualify for future rounds) 6 Silver Certificates 29 Bronze Certificates Mr Stokes Deputy Head of Maths at Penrice Academy This week students received their results and Team Maths is very proud to announce that our wonderful students have achieved the best ever results for Penrice!
