On Saturday 24th Nvember she competed at St Dennis Solo Contest and came away with some top results: Under 15 Slow Melody – 1st Under 18 Slow Melody – 1st Under 18 Aire Varie – 1st Junior Duet Under 18 – 1st Open Slow Melody All Ages – 2nd Open Aire Varie All Ages – 2nd Open Duet All Ages – 2nd Open Quartet All Ages – 2nd Open Ensemble All Ages – 1st Best Cornet/Soprano of the Day Most Outstanding Performance – St Dennis Ensemble Lia also competed at the St Austell Music Festival last week. Vocal Solo Years 9/10/11 – joint 2nd Under 14 Song from a Musical (Vocals) – joint 2nd Brass Solo Open Aire Varie – 1st Brass Solo Open Any Style – 1st Brass Solo Open Slow Melody – 1st, with 90 marks. This is classed as an ‘outstanding’ performance and was also the highest mark of the festival. She also received the trophy for the highest marks in solo brass. Lia also recently moved to Camborne Town Band, helping them out for the Annual SWBBA Championships in Torquay on the 3rd November. The band won the overall contest in the Championship Section. Following these brilliant results, she decided to make the move from St Dennis to Camborne Town. Lia said: “Camborne is regarded Cornwall’s most famous and successful brass band, so I’m really privileged to have been asked to join them. I will be playing 3rd man down. Also, the Principal Cornet used to play with Black Dyke – the world’s most famous band! I have some great help there!”
