St Austell Music Festival On Friday 4th December, Penrice musicians took part in the St Austell Festival of Music and Speech, doing exceptionally well! Highlights include: Joseph Barker (cello) performed in a string quartet with Jake Montgomery-Smith (Viola), Ben Webley (Violin) and Max Hamly (violin) Isabella Nash came 3rd in G5/G6 violin solo – this was the first time that she had performed at that level. April Talbot performed a G6 violin solo, a duet with Emily French (Violin) and both played in a violin quartet with the help of Ben Webley and Megan Dawes. Ben Webly won the G3 solo viola class which is a huge achievement as Ben has only recently moved from Violin to Viola. Beth Clarke won the vocal set piece class, came 2nd in G2 flute and won with a recorder trio alongside her sister Emma Clarke and Chloe Farley. Congratulations to Max Hamley who came 2nd in the Grade 5/6 string class. Huge achievement – well done! Emma Clarke won the folk song class, own choice jazz piano class and singing duet class with her sister Beth. Lia Teague won the secondary school Year 7-8 brass class, the open solo and air and variations classes. Lia also achieved the highest mark awarded to a brass player in the festival with 88 marks and she’s only in Year 7! And last but not least, the Harmony Choir, Junior Orchestra and Senior Orchestra all put on fabulous performances which proved again what a talented bunch our students are. Mr Jones said: “Once again I find myself feeling very proud of our brilliant musicians and of course I remain very grateful to all the instrumental staff both here at Penrice and in the wider community for helping our young musicians achieve so much.” Picture: Paul Williams – Adjudicator Steven Roberts presents certificates.
