Sport Report: 13/05/2016

This weeks report features the first cup cricket fixture for the Y8s, another good victory for the Y9 Boys Cricket team and news from the Girls Track and Field Cup meet which took place on Wednesday, a day after the Boys Track and Field Cup had to be postponed due to the weather.

There were two cricket fixtures this week, the Y8s narrowly lost and therefore exited this years cup competition in a “super over” against Newquay Tretherras. Having chosen to bat first the boys batted responsibly in difficult batting conditions and mustered a score of 78, Alec Nile scored 7 and Rowan Bird 10. In reply the boys put in an excellent bowling display, in particular Jamie Bennetts who took four wickets. In a pulsating final over the match which included dot balls, wickets and the runs to tie the match the scores finished level so the game therefore went to a super over. During the super over Penrice scored 6 and in reply need 2 to win off the last ball Tretherras scored  4 which gave them the win. Jamie Bennetts was the star man after his 4 wicket hall. The Y9s had a far more comfortable day, bowling first they restricted Newquay Tretherras to a score of 58, with the wickets being shared around, Ben Chapman and George Hutchinson particularly impressive taking two wickets each. In reply Penrice chased the score down in 11 overs, Archie Kelvin leading the way with the bat scoring 8 not out which also secured him the most value player award.

Also this week, in Athletics it was disappointment for the male Athletes as the annual Cornwall Track and Field Cup held at Carn Brea was cancelled due to the potential inclement weather, they try again next Tuesday at the same venue. The girls competition did take place on Wednesday, even though ironically the weather on Wednesday then that of the Tuesday, and the girls had an excellent day, particularly on the track which they in advance of the meet thought was their weaker facet of that or the field. A full set of results are not as yet ready and available so the wait for the results goes on, a full set of results will be printed in next weeks report. Please see a full squad list below.
