Sport Report 10/06/2016

It’s been a fantastic first week back of which there is much to report including Athletics from the Y7 and Y8 Track and Field Cup at Par, the female Athletics competing in the Regionals at Exeter Arena, two Rounders victories and a win for the Y7 Cricket team at Brannel – all of which took part in glorious sunshine too!

Congratulations to the girls who took part in the Regional Athletics competition at Exeter Arena on Tuesday finishing fourth – of the day Mrs Razzel writes “the girls did us very proud today at Exeter with some very respectable performances and personal bests – including Letitia Tucker who won the long jump with a massive jump of 4.50m and Megan Motiarty who nearly reached 8m in the shot and achieved her personal best score. All girls played a massive part and it proved a real team effort.

Overall, they did better than expected which is always great and they achieved over 30 points more than they achieved at Carn Brea.  We finished 4th with only approx 20 points between us and first place which is not a huge amount in this competition – bring on next season”.

Please find a list of the girls who participated in the competition, a special mention must go to Alicia Rowe who got off the plane from her holiday and met the team at the Arena with only 1 minute to spare ready to compete in her event.

Year 7 – Hannah Dawes, Izzy Jones, Olivia Carter, Emily Hoskin, Imogen Marston

Year 8 – Letitia Tucker, Megan Challis, Abbie Pike, Millie Bray, Megan Moriarty,  Olivia Nelson, Alicia Rowe, Ruby Brooks

Also on Tuesday boys and girls from  Y7 and Y8 competed in the Track and Field Cup at Par, Penrice had a very good afternoon, given the girls competing at Exeter this gave many different girls the opportunity to compete as well as many of the boys who regularly compete an opportunity and all the students did particularly well, currently the results are not available but will follow next week in next week’s report.

The Y7 boys had a comfortable victory in their latest match against Brannel on Wednesday – having won the toss and decided to bowl on Wednesday Penrice managed to restrict Brannel to 67. The wickets were shared around, John Gard took two wickets in one over, Josh Playford and Sean Blackbeard were also amongst the wickets to name a few. In reply the innings faltered slightly having been 20-1 to go to 24-4 however Alfie Harvey-Roach dug in and anchored the innings whilst in partnership with Alec Nile, who finished 37 not out, and although Alfie fell just before the end the game was pretty much won. The boys know however in future matches they are going to have to bowl more accurately and consistently if they want to improve as a team.

Also on Wednesday two female teams took part in Rounders matches at Fowey – the Y7s and Y8s and both returned victorious. The Y7s playing their first Rounders match winning an extremely close encounter 7.5 to 6.5 – Acacia Houston was deemed the most valuable player for her contribution in the match. The Y8s won in slightly more comfortably fashion winning by 9 Rounders to 6 – Abbie Pike the most valuable player. There is plenty more Rounders next week, with Bodmin the visitors on Tuesday with all year groups competing and it is the turn of the Y9 and Y10 Rounders teams against Fowey on Wednesday.
