PLEASE KEEP CHECKING PARENTPAY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR LAST-MINUTE TICKETS *** Penrice Academy is thrilled to present our 2023 School Production of Matilda Jr, the award-winning musical based on the original Roald Dahl classic. This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have you rooting for the “revolting children” who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson! Key Information and How to Reserve a Seat Tickets are available now via ParentPay for performances on 14th, 15th and 16th March. All performances begin at 6:00pm, with doors opening for arrivals from 5:30pm onwards. Light refreshments will be available before the show begins. Approximate end time is 7:15pm-7:30pm. Tickets cost £4 per seat and all proceeds go towards set design, costumes and stage equipment for future school productions. If this cost is a financial barrier to you and your family coming to see Matilda then we will be happy to help. In such instances, please contact Mr Goodlad, Director of Arts and Technology, via LGoodlad@penrice.org.uk. All emails will be handled under the strictest confidentiality. Please note that physical tickets will not be issued – there will be a guest list at the door instead. Finally, we understand that the NEU (Teachers’ Union) are taking strike action on the 15th and 16th of March. This has been accounted for and the show will still be going ahead on these dates as planned. Words from the Cast We caught up with the cast today (8th February) during their Penrice Plus rehearsal session. Emma (Year 7) – Miss Honey Year 7’s Emma has been cast as kind teacher Miss Honey and said: “The rehearsals have been going really well. We’re getting a lot of work done! Miss Honey is a very sweet and nice teacher who is really lovely to the children and really loves her job. However, she is badly overruled by Miss Trunchbull who makes life hard for herself and the students.” She continued: I think Matilda Jr is meant to be a very fun show. There’s plenty of music, singing and lots of dancing. It’ll be very enjoyable to watch. This will be my first Penrice School Production but my second time on stage. The Winter Concert really made me want to get involved more! Emma performing solo on stage at the Winter Concert in December 2022. Morgan (Year 11) – Miss Trunchbull Morgan in Year 11 plays the magnificent Miss Trunchbull – one of the main ‘baddies’! Morgan said: “I’m absolutely loving it! Playing the role of Miss Trunchbull gives me a great opportunity to shout! Despite being in Year 11, this is my first School Production. I’ve been involved in Penrice Plus Drama Club in years gone by, but never got involved with the School Production. I guess you could call me a bit of a latecomer!” He continued: “I have also been developing my drama skills outside of school; I’ve been involved in a couple of shows/workshops at St Austell Arts Centre. I’m constantly learning more about acting, dance and singing – especially trying to perfect the song ‘The Smell of Rebellion’ for Matilda! I believe my parents and grandparents will be attending the show and it will be great to show them everything I have learnt.” More Recent Penrice News… Year 9’s Freya Reaches National Final of Springboard Future Chef Competition Full Story Curriculum Feature: Science Full Story Penrice Gears Up for National Apprenticeship Week 2023 Full Story
