Primary Sports Festival

On Tuesday 26th September, Team PE at Penrice Academy hosted a mini Sports Festival for over 100 primary children from Years 4 and 5 from local primary schools.

Children from St Mewan, Mount Charles, Carclaze, Fowey and Luxuylan primaries spent the day in the Sports Hall, on the AstroTurf and on the field, trying their hand at a huge range of sporting activities.

In the morning the children competed for individual and team points while visiting a range of activities including rowing and tackling an assault course, playing hockey and badminton and trying their hand at athletics.

In the afternoon they had the opportunity to choose from competing in games of football, netball and hockey, encouraged to choose based on skills they’d like to learn or develop.

The day end in an awards ceremony, with certificates being awarded to students for exceptional effort and teamwork.

Mr Tucker, PE Teacher at Penrice Academy, told the children: “Sport is all about helping others. It’s about being selfless, about team work and about coming together with your friends to have fun. Today I saw all of that on display and I am very impressed. Well done!”

Mrs Scott-Hammond said she was ‘so impressed’ with the talent on display: “There are lots of potential county level sportsmen and women in the primary schools in the local area and we look forward to seeing more from them!”

The children were helped all day by Penrice Academy’s Beach Bay Head Stars; students from all years across the school who are working on their leadership skills in PE.
