Penrice Honoured to Host Regional AMSP Maths Feast

Penrice Academy was lucky enough to be selected to host the region’s Maths Feast yesterday (Thursday 23 March).

Run by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP), the Maths Feast is a fun educational challenge for Year 10 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Teams of four students test their maths skills with an all-you-can-eat feast of problems! There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success, with awards given for good teamwork and for the winning team of each round.

A total of 10 teams travelled to Penrice to take part in this year’s competition with schools as far west as Helston and as far east as Exeter. Penrice entered two teams.
Yesterday’s Maths Feast was led by Keith Gadd from AMSP who was the official question master.

Words by: Mr Dyke
Deputy Head of Maths at Penrice Academy

“We’re really privileged to work closely with the AMSP to promote the love of maths and problem-solving within our students.

It was a really successful event and it was great to see so many schools from across the South West get involved. Both Penrice teams got off to a flying start – they were exceptional in the first few rounds before finding the later rounds more challenging. Both of our teams scored exactly the same points total at the end of the event.”

The Maths Feast is not run as a competitive event, so there were no final standings at the end of the day.

My Dyke finished by saying:

“We are in talks with AMSP about hosting future events and look forward to working collaboratively with them again in the future.”
