Jake Sets up Britain’s Got Talent Gig On Wednesday 15th June, Jake Shillaber from Year 8 and Mr Brown headed to Carclaze Primary to set up a special gig for the whole school from celebrity guest Josh Curnow, Semi Finalist from this year’s Britain’s Got Talent. Josh Curnow, who has just returned to Cornwall following appearing on BGT 2016, treated Carclaze to one of his favourite songs, and one of his most popular singles. Former Carclaze Student Jake, a young veteran of the Penrice Sound and Light Team, led plans for the stage set up, including spot lights, mics, speakers and monitors, before taking control throughout the gig. Josh said: “A big thanks to Jake and the Penrice team – Jake is a young man who really knows his stuff when it comes to music and that’s great to see!” Before the show, Josh took part in a Q&A session with Year 6, who were eager to find out more about his career, why he applied for Britain’s Got Talent, how it felt to perform in front of 14 million people and what he thought of Judge Simon Cowell. They also offered some brilliant curveballs, wanting to know more about his favourite sport (rugby), who he thinks will win the Euros, if he rode the bus to school and, his favourite question, if he’s voting to’ Leave’ or ‘Remain’ in this month’s Referendum! When it came to the question of what he wants to achieve in his life, Josh explained he just wants to inspire young people. He told Year 6: “Being a musician is amazing and it feels great that people enjoy my music, but inspiring people to achieve and just making them happy is the best bit. It felt great.” “I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t had the desire to prove that I could do it. It’s really important to pursue your dreams no matter what it is – tell yourself you can do it, and you will!” The show ended with four fantastic performances from Carclaze’s own Talent Show.
