Hundreds came to “Find Your Future” at Penrice Academy’s Open Day On Thursday 26th September 2019, we opened our doors to hundreds of children and parents for a Careers and Occupations themed Open Day and Evening, with the aim of raising aspirations of the next generation towards success in the future. The Theme, Find Your Future, came from reviewing the many students “experiences” that we offer at Penrice Academy such as our unique Penrice Plus programme and how these can inspire students to explore new pathways to a successful career. Over 400 Year 6 children from surrounding schools joined us for the day to Investigate, Navigate and Create their way through the day, taking part in a huge range of activities across our subject area. This ranged from making bouncing balls in Science to learning about construction principles in Technology to discovering new countries in Geography and much more. Mrs Gurd, Assistant Principal and organiser of the day, said: “It was wonderful to see Year 6 immersed in our activities and taking part in discussing how the subjects they study can build towards their career paths in the future. We were so impressed with how they threw themselves into the activities with smiles and a lot of enthusiasm.” Principal Mr Baker said: “There is always something exciting happening at Penrice. Our Penrice Plus programme and other exciting “out of classroom” activities support our aim to ensure our students develop as responsible and confident young people who can go on to achieve their true potential. Our Open Day/Evening is a great opportunity to show our community what a fantastic school we have here. The event was truly incredible with our evening guests queuing out of the door to join us.” “A special thank you to our Prefects who were truly amazing in showing the families around, answering questions, and helping them get the most out of their visit here.” Our Open Evening saw the children return with their families. They were joined by hundreds of children and families from further afield, all keen to see our school in action. Visitors enjoyed drama performances and music, a whole range of sports in the Sports Hall, French café and canapes, exploding jelly babies and Methane bubbles (Science), making friends with the staff and animals at our schools onsite Farm and much more. Children used a Jobs sticker map to tour the Academy with the aim to collect as many job titles as possible from a variety of departments; a great way to get to know which subjects are important to particular careers. Kirsty Taylor, Head of Year 7 said, “Open Day is one of our favourite days of the year. Not only do we get to spend a day witnessing the smiles and wonder on the faces of Year 6 at what they can experience at secondary level, but we also get to celebrate everything Penrice is as a school.” Click here to find out more about Penrice Plus Missed Open Day at Penrice?
