GCSE Results 2015

This morning Penrice Academy was awash with smiles as our 2014-2015 cohort of GCSE students opened their results, culminating in years of hard work and dedication to learning at Penrice.

There were some exceptional results this year, with physics, chemistry, biology and photography all achieving 100% pass rates.

The average grade per student and the average progress per student have risen, and 67% of students across the school achieved five or more A*-C grades.

As always we are delighted with the results of our students at Penrice and this year are particularly pleased with the excellent progress they have made from their Key Stage 2 results to the GCSE results.

We have two sets of St Austell twins who did brilliantly – Zoe and Xara Grigg, who achieved 15 As and 6 A*s between them, and Matthew and Samuel Arnold –Parra (pictured) who achieved 19 A* or A grades between them.

Ex Head Students Toby Girdler and Billie Powell, both from St Austell, have truly done themselves proud. Not only did they prove to be one of the greatest Head Student pairs the school has seen – leading a number of site development projects and charity events – but they also achieved outstanding results, with Toby achieving 9 grade As and Billie 9 As and 3 A*s. Bille said: “I am absolutely over the moon! I did work really hard and I wanted to do well… and now I’ve found out it’s paid off I couldn’t be happier.”

Morwenna Tamblyn, 16 from St Austell, and Kieron Turk, 16 from Bodmin, both achieved A grades in their OCR Additional Maths Qualification, alongside a string of fantastic results across their other subjects. Morwenna achieved an incredible 9A*s and 5 As. This course provided the candidates with an introduction to the mathematics studied in AS and A Level GCE modules, designed for those students who have a thorough knowledge of the content of the Higher Tier of the National Curriculum for Mathematics.  Both Kieron and Morwenna achieved A* grades in their Maths GCSE in Year 10.

Mrs Carhart, Maths Teacher at Penrice, said: “To add some additional challenge in their final year of studying maths at Penrice, we decided to also double enter them for both the Further Maths GCSE and this additional higher level qualification.  It proved to be a sensible decision as both students have achieved A** grades in Additional Maths – they should be really proud of themselves.”

Other students who have been really successful include: Laura Barrett, St Austell (achieved 10 As and 2 A*s) Chelsea Bryant, Charlestown (achieved 9 As and 2 A*s), and Oliver Blewett from St Austell achieved an A* in English Language and English Literature. James Street, St Austell, literally jumped for joy on seeing his 6 As and A* in English Literature.

David Parker, Principal at Penrice Academy, said:  “There is no doubt that the examinations have got tougher and this year group had to work harder than any previous one to achieve the grades they did. We saw students two years ago getting A* who would not achieve that in the current examinations, so we have considerable respect for all the students who gained A* or A this year as well as everyone that managed to pass the subject they have been studying here – as nearly all did.”

“It is not just the final grade but the distance travelled over five years that counts – and many of this year group have made exceptional progress since Year 7. We are always proud of all of our students and wish them every success for next year and for the years that follow.”
