Creating a Buzz about Reading This week our Year 7s were presented with the books they had chosen as part of Bookbuzz, a reading programme from Book Trust, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure, independent choice and develop a whole school reading culture. Mr Johnson, English Teacher at Penrice, said: “The Bookbuzz scheme is a great opportunity to get Year 7s excited about reading. It is brilliant that we can give them a completely free book to keep and enjoy as often as they like. My class have kept asking when the books will arrive – they’ll be excited to take them home and start reading.” Participating schools give their students the opportunity to choose their own book to keep from a list of 17 titles suitable, for 11 – 13-year-olds, and selected by a panel of experts. Each Bookbuzz school receives a book and bookmark for every participating student to keep, and two sets of the Bookbuzz books for the school library.
