Keep regularly checking this blog for updates over the next 5 days. Friday 26 July 2024 Final Words That’s all for our #CEW2024 coverage this year! So many lifelong memories to cherish!! Thank you to the whole Penrice Community for a fantastic academic year. A brief end of term Parent Update / Newsletter will be sent out early next week once we’ve had a chance to catch our breath! Wishing everyone a wonderful and relaxing summer holiday. Barcelona Trip – Final Full Day A wonderful day enjoying Tossa De Mar; some serious bartering skills put to work in the market! There was a treasure trail up to the castle, we had pizza in the park, we did sightseeing, souvenir shopping, fun in the pool and beach games!! Action & Adventure – Group 1 Photos from Action & Adventure Group 1 over the past few days! Living London Life – Day 4 Words by: Mr Ashby Trip Assistant Our final day in the big city kicked off with a gentle ride on the London Eye, soaking in the city from above, followed by a not so gentle, high-speed power boat trip down the Thames – a real highlight for many of us! We then explored the history and impact of conflicts from around the world at the Imperial War museum, linking in with what our students have been studying in history and English. Our final day ended with a leisurely games night at the hotel where teachers and students competed cards, pool and foosball. A fantastic end to an incredible trip filled with memories that will last a lifetime. Fishing Week Some final photos from Fishing Week! Unless there is further news this afternoon, the Catch of the Week was a giant 16lb Carp!! Year 7 CEW Experience – Group C An action-packed few days for our Year 7s in Group C! Here are photos from Wednesday at Adrenalin Quarry! Animal Week Farming Fun at Dairyland Farm Park yesterday for our students on Animal Week! London Capital of Culture – Day 4 Words by: Mr Brodey Trip Leader Our final full day in London started with a tube and train journey from Queensway down to Hampton Court via Wimbledon. It was amazing to see Henry VIII’s famous palace still standing and filled with authentic antiques. Although the rain stopped us from exploring the maze, we still managed to eat our lunch al fresco and then travelled inside to explore the historic hallways. After leaving Hampton Court, we travelled from the court of a former king to Green Park to visit the home of our current King, Buckingham Palace. We then strolled up the Mall and through St James’s Park to Horse Guard’s Parade. This was followed by a brisk walk to Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus for some retail therapy. We enjoyed an evening meal at Pizza Hut, Piccadilly before heading to the Apollo Victoria for a fantastic performance of Wicked! Although we’re all exhausted and ready to go home, we’ve had an amazing week with memories we’ll remember forever! Public Services Week An incredible week in the Public Services group where our students have demonstrated teamwork, enthusiasm and bravery on a daily basis! Their hard work was recognised yesterday at the Phoenix Project Passing Out Parade, hosted at St Austell Community Fire Station, with dignitaries in attendance! Thursday 25 July 2024 Action & Adventure – France! Words by Lila, Year 10 Supporting Student: On Wednesday we caught a ride on the ski lifts up to Montagne L’Alpe de Verdun where we hiked over to the beautiful Lac Sainte Marguerite. We continued our journey to the end of the route where we enjoyed some shopping to finish our final full day. Kernow Week The weather didn’t stop our Kernow Week students enjoying Camel Creek Adventure Park today!! Barcelona Update [Wednesday Report] A beautiful day in Barcelona! The students have coped brilliantly with the heat. We visited Poble Espanol, Mont Juic, and the Olympic Stadium, all before heading back to the pool for a swim! Robotics Week There has been so much happening in the Robotics group this week! Yesterday, the team built and raced robots in the classroom. Today, the group are creating 3D animations. London Capital of Culture – Day 3 Words by: Mr Brodey Trip Leader Another fantastic day in the big smoke. We started our day by fuelling ourselves with a delicious breakfast before heading to Trafalgar Square and a guided tour of the National Gallery. We were split into two groups with half of our students learning about the way historical figures are depicted through art and the other group discovering the role mythology played in renaissance artwork. Our guides were fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable, inspiring the students with the back stories behind the artwork. After this visit we moved on to Covent Garden, where we had a chance explore the shops and marvel at the street performers. We then moved up to Bloomsbury to explore the British Museum and enjoyed a meal at Honest Burger, before ending the night with an incredible performance of Mrs Doubtfire. We were so impressed and can’t wait for our final full day in London tomorrow! Year 7 CEW Experience – Group B Some great skills on display yesterday at Rollers Roller Rink! Action & Adventure – France! Words by Lila, Year 10 Supporting Student: We started Tuesday with a splash by going White Water Rafting on the river Durance! After falling many times, we headed to Lac de Serre-Poncon to spend the afternoon on the Aquapark. After this, we headed to Embrun to do some shopping ahead of ‘Dress to Impress’! Action & Adventure – Group 2 There was a need for speed yesterday when students in Action & Adventure Group 2 enjoyed Go Karting at Adrenalin Quarry! Students then enjoyed some aquapark fun in the afternoon! Living London Life Words by: Mr Ashby Trip Assistant A very busy couple of days for our Londoners. Day 2 we started with a tour of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, followed by an adrenaline-filled Ariel assault course at Go Ape, Battersea. After indulging in pizza, cake and ice cream at Pizza Express, we ended our evening watching Twisters on the UK’s largest cinema screen at BFI IMAX. Day 3 we split into 2 groups: one group experienced the life of a journalist at the Guardian, working in groups to create their very own front page, whilst the other group explored the history of democracy at the Houses of Parliament, and we were lucky enough to be met by our newly elected MP, Noah Law. A delicious American-themed meal at Hard Rock cafe was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Day 3 ended with our 2nd stunning West End performance of Wicked. Wednesday 24 July 2024 Living London Life A mini update from the Living London Life who visited the Houses of Parliament today! A full write up of Tuesday and Wednesday and many more photos will be shared tomorrow. Year 7 CEW Experience – Group A A fun day at the beach for our Year 7 students today in Group A! Action & Adventure – Group 3 Theme park fun today for Action & Adventure – Group 3! London – Capital of Culture – Day 2 Words by: Mr Brodey Trip Leader Another jam packed day soaking up the diverse culture of our capital city! After a long needed sleep, we woke up early and enjoyed a hearty breakfast. We then caught the tube to St Paul’s and gazed in wonder at the amazing architecture of St Paul’s Cathedral. Crossing the Millennium Bridge, we headed to the Tate Modern where we immersed ourselves in a plethora of contemporary art. We enjoyed our lunch by Gabriel’s Wharf before embarking on a boat tour of the River Thames. We got to see many of the amazing sights from the river, including Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. After this, we took to the London Eye and witnessed London from above, gazing across the skyline onto the buildings below. We ate our evening meal at Pizza Express before enjoying a truly divine performance of Sister Act. We can’t wait for more adventures tomorrow! A Scilly Camping Week – Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Horray! Our Scilly’s Team have finally found a sufficient WiFi connection and we have a bumper update! Sunday was our first off-island trip to Tresco to see the white sandy beaches, sub-tropical gardens and of course ice cream! An impromptu water fight took place at the end of the day whilst we were waiting for the boat to take us back! Monday meant saw us scattered across 2 islands where exploring on St. Agnes and Snorkelling with seals on St. Martins. They were incredibly inquisitive and everyone got up close and personal with these amazing creatures. Tuesday saw the first coasteering group battle against strong tides and choppy seas to complete the activity with style. All students also took part in SUP and kayaking so they were very, very tired when we got back to camp. Wednesday sees more seals and more coasteering so more pictures to follow. The weather has been very changeable from wind, sun cloud, drizzle, fog all within an hour! Action & Adventure – Group 3 Lots of action at Adrenalin Quarry for Action & Adventure – Group 3 yesterday! Barcelona Trip An amazing day in Barcelona yesterday, if a little warm! Our students visited Sagrada Família before cooling off at the pool and heading out to enjoy some Flamenco fun in the evening! Chill and Thrill It was a fun day of archery, teamwork and watersports yesterday! Action & Adventure – Group 2 Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Lots of fun at Hangloose Adventure! All Things Creative It was a fun day at Charlestown for our students enjoying All Things Creative yesterday! Action & Adventure – France! Words by Lila, Year 10 Supporting Student: Over the course of Sunday and Monday we partook in a variety of activities including mountain biking, via ferrata (cliff-face traversing), climbing, and a jungle adventure in the tree tops! Students and staff are thoroughly enjoying themselves. We look forward to what the next few days entail, especially white water rafting and our hike in the mountains! Fishing Week A great first few days on Fishing Week, including some time at sea! Tuesday 23 July 2024 Barcelona Trip A thrilling day for all yesterday at PortAdventura! Year 7 CEW Experience – Group B Say cheese!!! It was a day of splashes and laughter at Adrenalin Quarry for Year 7 – Group B today! Public Services Week A wonderful experience so far for our students taking part in Public Services Week. Monday was spent with our local Police force, and today was spent at St Austell Fire Station. Year 7 CEW Experience – Group C Lots of fun and thrills at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park for Year 7 – Group C today! Year 7 CEW Experience – Group A A great start to CEW for our Year 7s in Group A who enjoyed Adrenalin Quarry on Monday and Rollers Roller Rink today! Living London Life Words by: Mr Ashby Trip Assistant After checking into our accommodation, we took an exciting walking tour over the Millennium bridge towards St Paul’s cathedral, taking in the sights of the city. A delicious meal at Honest burger was followed by an intriguing visit to Outernet, a wrap-around virtual experience, showcasing cutting-edge audio-visual art and technology! We ended our first day watching the showstopping Sister Act at the Dominion Theatre. A very busy first day, giving our students a taste of what it means to live the London life. Action & Adventure – Group 1 It looks like Action & Adventure – Group 1 had great fun yesterday!! London – Capital of Culture – Day 1 Words by: Mr Brodey Trip Leader After meeting at St Austell train station bright and early, we caught the 08:05 train to London Paddington. We had a brief walk to our hostel and then enjoyed a leisurely walk across Kensington Gardens, stopping for some sightseeing at the Royal Albert Hall and Prince Albert Memorial. In Year 8, students had learnt about Yayoi Kusama – the biggest selling female artist in the world – and immediately recognised her sculpture of a giant pumpkin. We had to stop for a photo! After this, we explored the wonders of the V&A museum – Mrs Ames was in awe at seeing Harry Styles’s cardigan on display! We then explore Knightsbridge and stopped at Harrods to gaze at the lavish and luxurious wares. This was followed by a gentle stroll across Hyde Park before our evening meal at Bella Italia. We then retreated to our hostel for some well-earned sleep! Monday 22 July 2024 Action & Adventure – Group 3 A fantastic day enjoying Hangloose at Eden! Action & Adventure – Group 2 An awesome day of surfing at Fistral Beach for the students on Action & Adventure Group 2! Chill and Thrill So much fun in Chill and Thrill today! Students spent the day at Badger Forest School where they enjoyed den building, forest crafts, fire building, roasted marshmallows, bug hunting and games in the woods!! PAFC (Plymouth Argyle) Week A great first morning of coaching for our football players on Plymouth Argyle Week! All Things Creative Some fantastic clay creations in All Things Creative!
