Cali and Jake at the Royal Albert Hall

Over the Easter break, Year 8’s Cali Sage and Jake Trembath from Year 9 performed at the Royal Albert Hall with the Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ sections of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

The NYCGB aim to be the most inspirational and innovative organisation for young singers in the UK. They ‘discover and nurture exceptional musical talent, provide incredible performance opportunities and world-class training and look to create the next generation of music lovers in Great Britain.’

Jake explains: “The National Youth Choir is brilliant. We have two courses a year during spring and summer that last five days – with one big concert at the end of it. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and be coached by world famous musicians. I was lucky enough to work with the former Head of Music at Eton College, Ralph Allwood, which was an amazing experience.”

The residential courses giving members a chance to develop their vocal techniques across a wide range of challenging pieces of music and give them outstanding performance experiences outside of their usual choirs.

Cali said: “You get to go to so many places and often sing for 10 hours straight – there’s nothing like it. If you go through the whole choir together from the start you also make lifelong friends.”

Mr Jones said: “NYCGB is an incredible thing for young people in Cornwall to be a part of and such a great opportunity for two of our most talented vocalists. Jake and Cali are both musical prodigies at Penrice; they’re involved in so much with the school in productions and gigs and I just know they’re going to be big in music in the future.”
