Boys’ Athletics Teams Clinch County Title

News coming in from the PE Department where both of our Boys’ Athletics teams were victorious against 17 other Cornish schools as they lifted the County Cup last week!

As a result of both teams winning, we will be taking them to compete against the other county champions from across the southwest at Millfield School on Wednesday 15th June. An amazing opportunity for 30 of our students!

There were a plethora of events in which our students triumphed in including 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1500m, Hurdles, Relay, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump and Triple Jump.

Consistency is Key

The title was secured by accumulating points over the course of the day by getting times and distances. It was a fantastic team effort – it was the consistency of the whole team that won the event for Penrice.

When asked about how Penrice has achieved this feat, Mr Jenkin said:

Mr Adam Jenkin
PE Teacher at Penrice Academy

“This year, we started doing Athletics training in March in lessons and after school twice a week. We have taken over 80 students to Par to use the facilities there and the local Athletics club in Par have offered/provided 4 coaches to help develop our students fitness/technique. We also have Elite Penrice Plus Sessions on a Friday where we invite high performing athletes to do advanced training. But the main ingredient to success is students’ hard work. They have identified their areas of strength and pursued this with dedication, commitment and hard work.

The PE Department are extremely proud of all of the athletes. This is their achievement and we are really excited that they now get to represent Cornwall at the regional finals on Wednesday 15th June at Millfield.”

The Girls’ competition takes place later this week having been postponed previously due to bad weather.
