24-Hour Charity Challenge Raises Over £4,000

Our Year 11 students showcased their dedication, teamwork, and boundless energy during their impressive 24-Hour Charity Challenge shortly before Christmas, raising more than £4,000 for local and national charities.

The event saw over 125 students participate in a variety of endurance activities, including dancing, rowing, cycling, and more, all to support three worthy causes.

This year’s chosen charities were:

  • Young People Cornwall
  • Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust
  • The Salvation Army

The challenge began on Thursday 19th December at 1:30pm and involved teams of students taking shifts, performing physical tasks to keep the event going around the clock. With a spirit of camaraderie and determination, students danced, cycled, rowed, and engaged in other sporting activities to raise funds and awareness.

Spectating students and teachers gathered around the edge of the Assembly Hall for the final dance at lunchtime on Friday 20th December, greeting Year 11 with rapturous applause when the clock struck 1:30pm, marking the end of the challenge.

Ben Statham-Wilkins, a spokesperson for Young People Cornwall, said:

“All of us at Young People Cornwall extend our heartfelt thanks to Penrice Academy’s Year 11 students for their incredible dedication in completing a 24-hour challenge to support our work. Efforts like these are vital in enabling us to provide essential support and opportunities to young people across Cornwall. The commitment and generosity shown is truly inspiring, and their actions will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the young people we work with. Thank you for being outstanding role models and advocates for positive change.”

Developing Character

This charity challenge is part of Penrice Academy’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of social responsibility and compassion among students. By organising events like these, the school not only helps raise money for important causes but also encourages students to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them and the importance of giving back.
