Youth Alpha: Introduction to Christianity

This week saw the second session of Youth Alpha take place after school. Run by Youth Work Development Officer, Jon Lewis, from St Austell Methodist church, Youth Alpha is an introduction to Christianity for anyone who may be interested in knowing a little more about the faith.

Jon, who runs the event alongside Mr Parry, explained: “It’s an opportunity to explore why a gentleman who lived 2000 years ago is still talked about today. It helps young people understand more from a Christian perspective, alongside what they learn in Religious Studies at school.”

Year 7’s Jamie Squire was instrumental in spreading the word of Youth Alpha and recently gave a presentation on the course in front of three different year groups on three consecutive days – a huge thing for a Year 7 to do.

Jamie, pictured here with Andrew Williamson from Year —-, said: “Youth Alpha is great fun and really interesting. It makes you want to learn more about your faith and, even if you’re not a Christian, it helps you answer and understand more about Christianity.”

Andrew said of the course: “The thing about Youth Alpha is it’s not pressurised in any way. It’s simply learning about how different Christians think about the world today in small groups. I love the debate aspect of it and the fact that there’s always more to learn.”
