Year 9 Dragon’s Den

This week, five teams of Year 9 students took part in a mock Dragon’s Den, as part of their Business Studies course.

The teams took turns to present three-minute pitches to a panel of  four judges comprised of Mr Parry, Mrs Yeo, Mr Reed and Year 11 students Ellie and Sam, who were part of this year’s Young Enterprise.

The event was the culmination of the students’ work on a mini enterprise project, which saw them coming up with a product, researching competitors, developing, marketing and considering potential audience and finances. Product ideas included a mug with a lid for holding biscuits, novelty glasses with lens wipers, a new Cornish chocolate company, a phone case and debit card hybrid and a phone case that can change colour.  The groups presented their pitch to the panel of judges – some with prototypes – before answering questions about their products.

Mrs Yeo, MFL Trainee and Dragon, said: “I was really impressed with their professionalism and some of the forecasting was particularly good. This was a great opportunity for the students to work individually and practice life skills by pitching in a real business environment.”
