Year 8 Football County Champions!

On 21st April 2015, the Penrice Academy Year 8 Football team won the Under 13 County Championship, adding the title to the Under 12 County Championship they won last year. This makes it three County Championship victories in a year for Penrice after the victory by the Year 10 Rugby Sevens team last term.

The Year 8s first had to beat Wadebridge in the semi-final the day before, which they did comfortably 3-1, with goals from Rubin Wilson and Aiden Lees. The final at St Blazey Football Club was a fascinating one, pitting the boys against Penryn – the team who agonisingly beat Penrice in extra time of the 5th round of the National Cup back in October.

Despite having the better of the first half, the boys found themselves 2-0 down. However, they staged a dramatic recovery playing some fantastic football to win 3-2, with Jenson Smith getting the winning goal 8 minutes from the end. The final minutes were nail biting for all players, staff and supporters, but the boys held out to win another trophy for the school.

Richard Brown, PE Teacher and Coach at Penrice, said: “The boys showed fantastic character to come back from two goals behind at half time. An excellent achievement from the whole squad to win it two years running, they should be very proud.’
