Year 7 Science: Mission to Mars!

On Tuesday 21st June, Year 7 played the part of Astronauts and Mission Control in the start of a series of ‘Press Conferences’ on their proposed Missions to Mars.

In groups, students faced an audience and set out plans – focusing on who, what, when, where and why – for a journey to the Red Planet.

Mr Bailey explains: “The students were keen to tell the world’s media about their plans – which are full of really exciting ideas, facts, figures and a little imagination! They did really well to research and deliver their presentations to their peers and we look forward to the next one.”

The information given included everything from the history of Mars and where it got it’s name, to the importance of choosing the right time to go, and planning a safe place to land. The students also revealed models of their proposed rockets.

This initial event was an opportunity for teams to announce the Mission Crew’s intent and to introduce themselves to – and take feedback from – the press. The next Press Conference will take place in two weeks.
