Trip to Warner Bros Studios

At the end of the spring term, 12 Year 9 students, who are currently making the set for our school production of the Wizard of Oz, had the opportunity to visit Warner Bros Studios for a tour of the Harry Potter Set.

As part of the visit, they took part in a tutorial about Production Design with ‘behind the scenes’ access to props and parts of the film set.  The students learnt about various jobs within the film industry and how sets are created, from simple sketches, to card models, to full size rooms.

Abi Tamblyn said it was great to learn outside the classroom: “It was such an exciting experience. The workshop was especially interesting and opened me up to new ideas about a future related to product design or film making.”

Mrs Lewis , Teacher of Product Design, said: “After a gruelling six hour journey in the minibus, I’m not sure who were more excited about the visit, the students or staff! But neither were disappointed.  It was amazing to see the set up close, with the attention to detail incredible, even down to the cutlery used in the great hall – all hand-made. There was an opportunity to learn some ‘wand’ techniques, ride on a broomstick, sit in the magical flying car, board the Hogwarts Express and not forgetting the tasting of the Butter Beer!”
