Year 7 and 8 French

Students learn how to understand language and acquire the skills to manipulate language and use language for themselves through a variety of topics that mirror those undertaken at GCSE. A focus in the language classrooms at Penrice is to create a safe atmosphere in which students enjoy language learning and are prepared to take risks in their learning and where they can become resilient language learners. Students will develop an understanding of cultural differences and similarities both in France and other French speaking countries. Throughout year 7 students will establish the foundations of language enabling them to continue to progress in French. Students will also understand the importance of learning a language as a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure!

We follow Edexcel as the exam board for Key stage 4. Students are examined on the 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. These are all weighted equally at 25% and all are examined at the end of year 11. (The speaking exam is in March/April of year 11).

Year 9 French

In Year 9 the students will fully develop the skills to write and speak proficiently, with spontaneity and with confidence. They will also read authentic texts and study translation skills. Students will listen to authentic passages and conversations and be able to infer meaning and details from this. This will enable them to reach their full potential. Students will undertake all examinations at the end of KS4. Reading, listening, speaking and writing are each worth 25% of the final grade. Students will also continue understand the importance of learning a language as a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure!

Year 10 French

In Year 10 the students will fully develop the skills to write and speak proficiently, with spontaneity and with confidence. They will also read authentic texts and study translation skills. Students will listen to authentic passages and conversations and be able to infer meaning and details from this. This will enable them to reach their full potential. Students will undertake all examinations at the end of KS4. Reading, listening, speaking and writing are each worth 25% of the final grade. In year 10 students will undertake a pre public examination in French that will fully mirror their GCSE exam the following year. Students will also continue understand the importance of learning a language as a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure!

Year 11  French

In Year 11 the students begin to study their GCSE course. Students will build upon the skills, knowledge and understanding gained at KS3 and in year 10 and will study a variety of topics. Students currently follow the EDEXCEL exam board. In KS4, the students will fully develop the skills to write and speak proficiently, with spontaneity and with confidence in French. They will also read authentic texts and study translation skills. Students will listen to authentic passages and conversations and be able to infer meaning and details from these. This will enable them to reach their full potential. Students will undertake all examinations at the end of KS4. Reading, listening, speaking and writing are each worth 25% of the final grade. Students will also continue to develop their cultural awareness throughout Year 9, and will also continue to understand the importance of learning a language as a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure!
