Students Perform at HFC Showcase

On Monday 19th January, 17 Penrice students represented their school at the Cornwall Secondary Drama Showcase at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro.

The theme of the night was Kernow Tales: Tall and Small, with 11 schools, two youth drama groups and three choirs celebrating Cornish culture using drama, dance and music to portray a Cornish myth. Penrice Academy’s myth was the Mermaid of Zennor, the 130 year old tale of love of loss.

The students, who ranged from Year 9-11 and were all volunteers with a particular interest in Performing Arts, worked as part of an ensemble, all contributing to the contemporary piece. They watched a matinee in the afternoon and took part in a full dress rehearsal before the evening performance. The audience at the ticketed event included staff, governors and parents from schools across the county.

Mrs Taylor, Assistant Principal, said: “The experience of performing on a proper stage cannot be beaten. Our kids’ performance was stunning, professional and slick and the attention to detail was absolutely brilliant. They should be very proud. A huge thank you too to Mr Bristow, Mrs Gurd and Mr Tew for their help in putting the production together.”
