Star Sports Students: County Rugby

George Tregilgas and Josh Barbery from Year 11 were selected to play rugby for Cornwall Schools against Devon last Sunday.

Mr Tucker explains: “Both played for the A team who were in the game at half time with the score 17-14 to Devon. In the second half Cornwall suffered a couple injuries which enabled Devon to move away to win 36-14.  The next match will be on the 24th January at home against Bristol Schools.

George plays as an inside centre and has been a key player for his year group over 5 years at Penrice. He is powerful runner and has been an excellent captain and leader for the squad. He has worked hard on his handling over recent months and has made huge improvements to his game while being part of the Exeter Chiefs Academy.

Josh is an uncompromising prop. Although he often comes up against physically bigger opponents he brings excellent technical skills and aggression to the scrum. He is also a formidable defender and has improved hugely in recent months to earn his spot in the County squad.

Both players have shown excellent commitment to rugby at Penrice and at their club St Austell. Both are excellent role models for younger players.”
