Sport Report: 20/05/2016

A very busy week with much to report including three County Championship winning Golfers, the results from the Girls Track and Field Cup last week, the Boys Track and Field Cup at Carn Brea this week, disappointment as the boys Cricket against Truro was postponed, however there is news from the Y9 Cup Cricket match at Launceston – all in the week of the PE exam as well!

On Monday three boys from Y7 became County Champions by winning the Cornwall Schools Golf Championship for the first time held at their home club of St Austell. Jowan Conibear-Trathen, Jack Warren and Alec Nile all performed fantastically, all coming in level par or under to record a total score 82 points to win the competition from Pool Academy by one point.

It was an extremely good day for Penrice as they actually entered three teams to the competition, and infront of parents and club members who see the boys playing so regularly at the club, the team of Ricardo Sanchez, Zac Rodgers and Ewan Warren came third with a final total score of 80, and the third team entered consisting of Marcus Wilkins, Bradley Varcoe and Oliver Watson came fourth also with 80 points, this was out of 22 teams to enter the competition.

The results of the Girls Track and Field came through late last week and it was it was good news for the Girls who won the Junior competition after earning 265 points and in the Intermediate competition came fourth on 252 points, both competitions had 19 schools from across Cornwall competing and the girls from the Junior team must now wait to see if they have qualified for the regional final. Please see a full final results table and individual results below.

The boys competition was held on Tuesday and it was the inter boys who had the better day finishing second overall only 9 points behind a very strong Richard Lander side. The junior boys, consisting of several Y7s also did fantastically well finishing  joint third with Truro School. Please see final results tables and individual results below.

In the Cricket this week the Y9 team safely negotiated their first round match with Launceston on Wednesday. Having been put into bat Penrice scored 95/3. Jack Hoskin carried his bat to score 17 not out, whilst there were important contributions from Adam Dalby 17, Kit May 12 and Dan Hocking 20. In reply it was Archie Kelvin who took a hat trick to destroy the Launceston middle order, wickets were shared around by Kit May, Dan Hocking and George Hutchinson as Launceston were all out 52.  The scheduled Y7 and Y8 matches against Truro School unfortunately succumbed to the weather.

Result – Penrice 95/3 (D Hocking 20, A Dalby 17, J Hoskin 17no) beat Launceston 52 all out (Archie Kelvin 3-9 including a hattrick) by 41 runs. MVP – Archie Kelvin/Jack Hoskin
