Primary Schools Visit for Photography

On Wednesday 6th May, 21 primary students from four schools in the St Austell area – St Mewan, Mount Charles, Sandy Hill and Pondhu Primary – attended a Primary Workshop on photography techniques in the Art Block at Penrice Academy.

They learnt all about cyanotypes, photograms and making handmade negatives, using drawings and silhouettes to create a mixed media photography techniques scrapbook to show off to their parents.

Miss Fegan, Art Teacher, said: “The students loved it – they got to use the ‘dark room’ and learnt how to use sunlight to expose and develop photographs. The Art Department run various workshops throughout the year for local primary schools, to aid the transition and get them excited about art at secondary level, which is lovely to see.”

When asked what they enjoyed best, Jody, Lincoln and Ethan from St Mewan said – “Absolutely everything! Everything is great about today – photography is so exciting and we can’t wait to do it again!”
