Primary English Day

This week the English Department hosted an Alice in Wonderland Day for a selection of 40 Year 6 pupils from local primary schools.

The aim of the day was to enable students from Charlestown, Pondhu, Mevagissy and Carclaze Primary Schools – many of whom are joining in September – to come and show off their creative writing skills. The pupils spent the morning discovering the plot to Lewis Caroll’s famous tale Alice in Wonderland and learning all about the evil character of the Queen of Hearts through film and reading extracts of the story.

They then toured the school grounds, discovering possible sightings of the White Rabbit and the famous rabbit hole, and spent time producing their own wonderful stories of falling down a mystical rabbit hole.

Miss Trerise, English Teacher, said: “The pupils were exceptional and are a really exciting prospect for September 2016. They demonstrated superb writing craft and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Penrice environment. Many were heard to say ‘I can’t wait until I’m here!’ and they loved having the chance to explore and tackle a challenging day of writing and creating.”
