Penrice ShowJumping Success

Report by Miss Trerise

If there’s one thing that pulls you away from the news and makes you realise how lucky you are, it’s a day with our amazing students and I absolutely loved my time with them last Saturday for the first round of the Indoor School ShowJumping series.

First up were the open team over one of the biggest courses we’ve seen. Chritiana Dean, Melissa Hull, Bethany Hull and Jasmine Sleeman jumped superbly, with just some unlucky poles. Jasmine found the step up to open level for the first time daunting and was one of the youngest riders in the class, but she rode bravely and the experience will put her in good stead for the next competition. The team came 5th, with points very close. They also picked up a 4th for tack and turnout. This is the first time the school has scooped a prize here; our new saddle cloths are paying off, the girls are getting very competitive about their turnout and they look immaculate.

The stars of the show had to be our new novice team of Year 7s; Maddie Adams, Casey Netherton and Emily Hoskin on what was first time riding for the Academy. They were amazing and are a really exciting prospect. They all jumped super rounds and picked up 5th team and 6th for tack and turnout (again, a first for any of our novice teams). Maddie Adams also scooped 5th place individually and Casey Netherton 6th place.

This was the first time many of the girls have ever competed over a big ShowJumping track and they were buzzing with excitement and pride at the end with some very, very happy parents. To be placed individually out of well over 60 riders is brilliant.

It was an amazing day in classic Cornish winter weather. We’re excited for the next event in February, where I know the girls will be even more competitive now they’ve opened their campaign.
