National Young Carer’s Day

On Thursday 28th January our Young Carers came together to celebrate National Young Carer’s Day, welcoming Liz Digweed from Kernow Young Carers, to talk through any issues, questions and ideas they may have. KYC provide support outside of school, offering exciting day trips and activities.

The day also marked the unveiling of their brand new logo. Mrs Gouldsmith explains: “Our Young Carers decided they really wanted a new logo to represent what they do, so they came up with some designs, and the final one is the culmination of all their ideas.”

The design, drawn by Jenny from Year 10 with the help of the group, was ‘inspired by stick figures and jelly beans’ and was sent to Luke Matthews, a professional illustrator based in Somerset, to turn it into a digital logo.

Natasha from Year 8 said: “We love being Young Carers! It’s all about helping our family and we really enjoy it. Coming together as a group gives us the chance to talk to others who are in the same situation and also to have fun.”

The Penrice Young Carers are working towards their Young Carers in Schools Bronze Award, which is due to begin this term.

A Young Carer Drop In is held for all Young Carers every Thursday morning break and lunchtime, in the Chalet by the Student & Family Centre, to provide additional support within school.
