Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

On Thursday 25th June, Penrice Academy staff and around 50 local Primary pupils celebrated 150 years of Alice with croquet, costumes, ice cream sandwiches and, of course, tea, at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

Visiting pupils from Mevagissey, Bishop Bronescombe, Mount Charles and Pondhu Primary Schools explored the magical world of Wonderland dressed as iconic characters from the story, taking part in a variety of Alice-themed activities including hunting for jam tarts, playing flamingo croquet and decorating cupcakes. They also spent time at their own schools creating their own invitations and decorations for the party.

Mr Johnson, English Teacher at Penrice, said: “It was fantastic to come together like that to celebrate Lewis Carroll’s wonderful book that still inspires young people today. I was so impressed by their costumes and enthusiasm for the party and it’s clear Alice in Wonderland is still a much loved tale. I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and our student helpers who really pulled together to create this wonderfully mad spectacle!”
