Star Students: Penrice Golf

Last week, Ewan Warren (Year 8) Zac Rogers (Year 9) and Ollie Watson (Year 10) travelled 700 miles to Woodhall Spa, the home of England Golf, to represent their school, club and County in the English National School Championships.

Ewan carded a remarkable 39 points, earning an individual 4th place overall out of 102 golfers.

We spoke to Ewan, who is just 13 years old, to find out more about the event.

Tell us about the competition

It was amazing, we had a qualifier at St Austell and then Penrice qualified so we went to Championships!

How long have you been playing golf and what got you started?

I’ve been playing for 5 years and I love it. I play for St Austell and for the County. My dad has played for a long time and he took me along once and I was just hooked!

What do you like about it?

I really enjoy it and find it really relaxing mainly. It’s not always all about the competition – you can just play with friends in the fresh air. But then every now and then you have to focus for the competitions, so it can be really exciting too.

Who inspires you most?

Rory Mcilroy is an inspiration to me – he’s very talented and he’s won some of the biggest events in the game.

What’s next for you?

Next I’ve got a county match in Bournemouth and I’ve been chosen to Captain it – which will be great experience! After that it would be great to play on tour or be a teaching professional in the sport when I leave school.
