Guide to the iPad

We make sure every student has the means to learn by our provision of school iPads, which both students and parents agree has increased motivation, engaged children in learning, given them fantastic technological abilities with the devices and is having an impact on examination results.

The introduction of iPads has transformed Teaching and Learning at Penrice Academy. We use the latest innovative technologies to aid students in their digital learning journey and prepare them to become 21st Century lifelong learners.

Engagement and productivity are excellent; students create professional presentations, movies, animations and music. They can research topics using the internet, read books, watch instructional videos and access 1000’s of courses on iTunes U.  These tools enable our students to get a deeper understanding of topics and demonstrate their learning in more creative ways, preparing them for working collaboratively with others, using technology that is up to date and for future research tasks beyond their school lives.

We have some sophisticated filters and mobile device management systems in place at school, and we like to educate our students to be responsible with technology.

When it comes to getting the most out of your iPad – like any with any high-tec device – it can take some practice, investigation and trial and error. Here are some guidelines that may be of help.

Accessing Resources

Resources that are used on the iPads can be accessed through the internet. The Revision App that we have put together can be accessed from the Student Portal on the school’s webpage, and by clicking here.

General use, used for saving and sharing resources between students and teachers:

Google Drive – www.google.com/drive/

Google Classroom – https://classroom.google.com

Showbie – https://my.showbie.com/signin

iCloud – www.icloud.com – for any saved keynotes, pages or numbers documents

Maths are using several apps that can be accessed through the internet, such as:

MathsWatchwww.mathswatchvle.com – login details are the same for app and website.

Mathspacehttps://mathspace.co/

Desmos – www.desmos.com

English

Students will need to access the Accelerated Reader programme from home in order to complete quizzes when outside of school.

To do this they need to visit this specific link (tied with our school account) and use their login details as normal. https://ukhosted65.renlearn.co.uk/1895377/

Login details and passwords have been given to students and they should keep these organised so they know where to find them.
