Enterprise Day On Wednesday 4th March, Penrice welcomed the Proper Cornish Food Company for Business Enterprise Day, part of National Careers Week, to promote entrepreneurial spirit as well as develop awareness of the range of skills needed for different jobs.Year 9 students were set different tasks throughout the day, with the goal of promoting a Proper Cornish pasty oversees to France, Germany or Spain. They each had a role to play in their team, from media coordinators to graphic artists, with tasks including choosing a name for the company, designing a logo, slogan and packaging, creating advertising leaflets, radio and television commercials and considering finances and their target market. The teams were joined by student ambassadors from Cornwall College St Austell, who helped the students with their tasks during the day.Mr Thomas, Head of Year 9, said: “It was a fantastic day for Year 9. We have started to look at career paths during tutor times and today was a great opportunity to experience first-hand what it’s like to work as a team to market a new product. The standard of work was really high and I was particularly impressed with how so many students applied themselves to their various roles within each team. A huge thank you also to the staff for their fantastic effort on the day.”The day culminated in a buzzing ‘trade fair’ in the hall, at which students displayed their marketing materials and promotion plans. The winning team was then judged by a panel of experts including Angie Shepherd from Nurturing Excellence, Claire- Louise Hunt from St Austell Tesco, Guy Bawden from GSB accountancy and Mark Muncey, Marketing Director of Proper Cornish. The teams were marked on their ideas, product and ability to work as a team. Congratulations goes to the winning team, Oggy Roy! As part of their prize the students will be treated to a visit to the Proper Cornish headquarters in Bodmin where they will find out how a top local business works.Read more: Finalists visit Proper Cornish! You can see more pictures from the event in our gallery.
