Celebrating El Día de los Muertos

On Tuesday 1st November, our Modern Foreign Language department went all out to celebrate the Mexican festival of El Día de los Muertos – known this side of the Atlantic as Day of the Dead.

Mrs Yeo explains: “Despite it’s rather ghoulish name, ‘the Day of the Dead’ is actually a very beautiful celebration that celebrates the life of deceased relatives. It also offers us a great opportunity to explore another language and culture, which is what MFL is all about.”

Mrs Yeo, Mrs Bate and Mr Cartier got into the spirit of the day through traditional face paint, clothing and classroom ‘shrines’, while students explored the history, culture and language, music, food and the country of Mexico in different lessons throughout the day.
